How to Save Money on Food While Traveling
1. Get the right Hotel Room
A great hotel room should include besides the typical amenities at least
1| Decent Breakfast or/and dinner.
2| Fridge, coffee maker, microwave.
The continental breakfast is a light breakfast with basic morning meals such as pastries, fruits, sweets, and coffee. Look for hotels that offer a full breakfast; a buffet with hot meals such as eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc.
We always chose those hotels offering a full breakfast. It’s the best way to start your day with a hot meal.
In Ohio, we found a great hotel that included a full delicious breakfast and dinners. Great deal price and great food.
Buy at Local Supermarket
It sounds obvious, and it is useful. If you go to the local supermarket, make sure to get plenty of great snacks and bottles of water to consume during the day. Groceries can be stored in the room’s fridge.
Things like a bottle of water, juice, milk, crackers, can help with late-night cravings. Get some fatty snacks like cheese or pecans. If you drink, buy at the liquor store which it’s a cheaper option than drinking at the local bar.
Stay Away from Tourist Restaurants
The area for tourists has plenty of restaurants that are expensive and the quality of the food is not really great. Instead, ask at the hotel for restaurants where the locals eat. You will be surprised to find cheaper prices and tasty meals.
Pay with local Money
When you are a tourist is more convenient to have local money to pay for food and extras. Otherwise, you may be charged an overprice just because you are a tourist. Ask for advice at the hotel.
During the day, I pack a bag with fatty-snacks such as cheese, pecans, nuts. Why fatty snacks? Because, when we eat fatty snacks, we won’t feel hungry for long periods of time. It is something I learned from a keto diet. After my meals, I eat some fatty snacks and voila! I can go without eating for hours. I never eat sugars or carbohydrates though.
